Geological cross-section along Ptolemais-Kozani graben, modified after L.C.P.A 1985. It is emphasized the formation of a mega-anticline macrostructure with NE-SW axis direction. Taking into account, the same structural arrangement in the western borderline, it becomes clearly comprehensive the great importance of these complex macrostructures in the central parts of the graben. In parallel, it becomes obvious the extremely decreasing thickness of the Pliocene lignite sequence in the greater area of Komanos Lignite Field, in contrast with the large thickness of the sedimentary fill in the South Lignite Field.
